Strategic Plan ‘Te Ara Hou’ – a new vision for Mission from 2020 and beyond

The Anglican Missions Board

Stepping into its next 100 years, Anglican Missions is excited to share Te Ara Hou, “a fresh wind, a new breath”, which gives Anglican Missions a clear strategic focus for its ongoing work, and will enable even greater engagement with the wider Church as it provides a simple but powerful framework for understanding the Board’s mandated outcomes and achievements.

Weaving together the responsibilities contained in Canon IX and the Anglican Missions Trust Deed, Te Ara Hou describes a three-fold approach to Mission:

Mission in Action    Kia tō tika te haere whakamua            which describes who, what and where we fund
Mission Together    Kia ata tuituia o tātou whakairo          which provides a framework around who we do mission with
Mission Profile        Kia whakamanahia te kupu korero     which ensures we tell mission stories well

Background

The Anglican Missions Board of the Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia (commonly known as Anglican Missions, AMB, or the Board) first established by the Church in 1919 and incorporated as an Incorporated Charitable Trust in 1922 coordinating the overseas mission of the Church. In 1998, the Board’s Canon was reviewed and updated to reflect the 3 Tikanga composition of the Church with AMB’s coordination of overseas mission being funded primarily through giving from parishes and rohe, with additional support coming from trusts, bequests and individuals.

In 2008, the Board was registered as a charitable entity with the Charities Commission in accordance with the Charities Act 2005. As an organisation we steadfastly seek to activate and mobilise the Anglican Church to focus on faith in action, mission. We do this by seeking prayer, support and resources from our New Zealand church community and working through our well established partners to deliver real positive impact and change for good, in areas of greatest need.

Our Mission

We work to enable the three tikanga church to pursue and share in overseas mission activities. This includes funding and enabling partner churches and mission agencies to send people out; supporting aid and development projects and coordinating appeals for emergencies (primarily in our neighborhood the Pacific); and acting as a GLOBAL MISSIONS AGENCY on behalf of Anglicans.

Underpinning our work are the Five Marks of Mission:

• To PROCLAIM the Good News of the Kingdom
• To teach, baptise and NURTURE believers
• To RESPOND to human need by loving service
• To TRANSFORM unjust structures of society
• To safeguard the integrity of creation, and SUSTAIN and RENEW the life of the earth
