Trust, experience and expertise come together to deliver more effective, more efficient aid.

Anglican Missions has joined the Emergency Alliance, a group of non-profit agencies that have united to raise funds during times of emergencies. The Emergency Alliance launch took place on Wednesday, March 16th in Auckland.

The founding members of the Emergency Alliance alongside Anglican Missions include Tearfund New Zealand; The Leprosy Mission New Zealand; Habitat For Humanity New Zealand; Christian World Service; Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand; cbm ; and ADRA. More members are expected to be announced soon.

By pooling resources and expertise, the alliance aims to reduce confusion and raise trust for the public when deciding where to donate funds during the early stages of a major emergency.

The Emergency Alliance launch event was attended by representatives from various non-profit organizations, including Anglican Missions. The day began with a workshop to refine and focus the process of launching a join appeal and ended with an official launch with media present.

The Emergency Alliance joins a global network of joint appeal organisations, most notably the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee), which raised over 600 million pounds last year. Their effectiveness is a template for how incredibly effective collaboration and cooperation in this space is.

“This model is very well established overseas. The benefits of working together are already proven to be creating unprecedented opportunities for aid organisations to do more good, more often, and much more effectively” said Emergency Alliance Executive Director, Paul Brown. “I’m thrilled to be part of creating something here in Aotearoa, so we can do the same” he continued.

National Director of Anglican Missions, Rev Michael Hartfield agreed, stating:

“This simply makes sense. Every conversation we’ve had with stakeholders regarding a joint appeal has been met with universal approval. The question is always – why haven’t we done this sooner?”

Overall, the launch of the Emergency Alliance is a significant step towards more efficient and sustainable emergency relief. By bringing together various non-profit organizations, the alliance can provide a more coordinated and effective response during emergencies. Anglican Missions’ joining of the alliance will only strengthen its capacity to help those in need.
